About Traeger

Traeger is one of Queensland’s largest and most diverse electorates. Covering 428,911 square kilometres and 12 Local Government Areas, it spans from the heritage-rich goldfields of Charters Towers to the mining powerhouses of Mount Isa and Cloncurry and beyond to the Northern Territory border. It also takes in the Gulf Country, including Burketown, Normanton, Karumba and Mornington Island.

The seat was created in 2017, merging much of the former Mount Isa electorate with parts of the old Dalrymple seat. It was named after Alfred Hermann Traeger, the inventor of the pedal radio that transformed communication in remote areas.

Traeger’s economy is built on mining (with the North West Mineral Province in the heart of the electorate, agriculture and grazing, industries that have long sustained its communities.

From Charters Towers to Mount Isa and the smaller towns in between, the region is a vital part of Queensland’s economy and identity.

Key Issues in Traeger

The challenges in Traeger are as vast as the land itself. Robbie has been a strong advocate, addressing the unique needs of the electorate and ensuring its communities are heard in state decisions.

Mining, Agriculture and Industry:
Robbie backs development and innovation in these cornerstone industries, driving initiatives like CopperString 2032 and advocating for water storage projects to secure the region’s future. Healthcare and Services:
Access to essential services like healthcare, housing, education, power and water is critical. Robbie has been vocal about expanding dialysis services in Traeger and beyond, as well as making sure rural and remote areas get the support they need.

Rural Roads and Infrastructure:
Better roads and infrastructure are vital for keeping communities connected. Investment in these areas benefits locals and visitors alike, guaranteeing Traeger remains accessible and liveable.

Air Travel and Pricing:
Air travel is a lifeline for many in rural and remote areas. Robbie continues to push for fairer airfare prices and more reliable services for these communities.
